AXIS Pharmacy Northwest has named Fred Gomez, Compounding Pharmacy Technician, the Employee of the Quarter for 1st Quarter, 2021. We asked Dave Doane, CEO of AXIS Pharmacy Northwest, to share a few words about Fred, and here is what he had to say:
“Fred, or as we affectionately call him, “Freddie,” is a super valuable part of the AXIS team. He is very proficient as a compounding technician, and what I appreciate most is the demeanor in which he does his job. Frequently, a customer will forget to order on time and needs a compound sooner than our regular process allows; this creates a daily challenge. When things get crazy in the lab, he continues working, doing the best he can; who can ask for more than that?
He is also our internal IT person. It almost seems unfair that whenever there is an issue anywhere in the building, people ask for his help, and he is willing and quite capable of solving problems. Whenever we need wiring, setting up a new workstation, even swapping out a hard drive, he is our guy. Thanks, Freddie!!”
Fred took some time to share some tidbits about himself, his life outside work, and some of his favorite spots in the Pacific Northwest.
Tell us about what you like to do outside of work.
I love to try new recipes, and I enjoy it when I can find time to play video games with old friends. I also enjoy anime and all sorts of films.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Some of my hidden talents are quilt-making and building computers for fun during my time off, whether for friends or good causes.

I am with my fiancée.
If you could turn into an animal, what would it be?
If I could harness an animal’s traits, I would want to have those of a bear. Its strength, fortitude, endurance, and perseverance all work together when it’s needed.
What’s the very first job you had (that’s not on your resume), and what did you learn from the experience?
One of my very first jobs was being a paperboy. I learned at a young age that hard work does pay off.
How would you describe yourself in one word? Why?
I would describe myself as a “clever” individual. I believe that my job requires it.
What is your favorite local restaurant?
One of my favorite local restaurants would have to be Nori Presto, just north of Seattle.
Where can you find the best view where you live?
The best view where I live is definitely in my backyard with the cherry blossom trees.
What is your favorite local park/hiking trail?
My favorite local park is St. Edward State Park.
If someone came to visit you from out of town, where is the first place you would take them?
If I were to show somebody from out of town the area, I would love to take them to see Pike Place Market and the Seattle waterfront.
Who has the best booth at the local farmer’s market?
The 11 Olives booth always sells the best olive oil at the Kirkland Farmers Market
What is the most rewarding & favorite part of your job at AXIS Pharmacy?
My favorite part of working at Axis Pharmacy Northwest is the enjoyment I get from helping others.
